You may face situations where, for whatever reason, a problem arises and you are not able to get immediate access to dental care. We hope the following tips will be of some help though we stress that most are interim in nature and in most situations there is no substitute for proper dental treatment.
Bleeding
Bleeding in the mouth that is not caused by trauma most commonly arises from (1) an extraction site or surgical site that is not yet fully healed or (2) gums that are very inflamed/swollen due to gum disease.

- Locate the spot(s) where the bleeding is coming from
- using a clean tissue/handkerchief/gauze pack/cotton pad apply continuous pressure to the bleeding spot for at least 30 minutes. Keep the mouth as dry as possible during this period.
- repeat if the bleeding has not fully stopped.
Do not:
- rinse the mouth in an attempt to clear away the blood until you have stopped the bleeding.
- suck at the bleeding site
Pain
Take over the counter pain medication such as Paracetamol if you are not allergic to the medication.
